The California Senate Governmental Organization Committee Voted Today 4-6 to Stop Senator Leno's 4 a.m. Bar Bill

The measure is dying but on life support.  Senator Mark Leno, who introduced SB 635 for special interest groups seeeking to extend drinking hours in California from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m, could petition to have the bill reconsidered on April 30th in the Senate GO Committee.

Tell Senator Leno to Pull the Plug and Let SB 635 die

We agree with the six members of the Senate GO Committee who voted NO, that this poorly constructed, misguided bill that will only benefit bar & restaurant owners at taxpayer expense, should be laid to rest.

TAKE ACTION Today...tell Senator Leno to let the bill die.

California doesn't need or want bars, restaurants, and clubs selling alcohol between 2 and 4 a.m.

STOP ALCOHOL INDUSTRY INVOLVEMENT IN PUBLIC HEALTH ACTIVITIES

~ THIS IS AN APPEAL TO GLOBAL HEALTH COMMUNITY TO PLEASE ENDORSE THE “STATEMENT OF CONCERN” ABOUT THE INCREASING INVOLVEMENT OF THE ALCOHOL INDUSTRY IN PUBLIC HEALTH ACTIVITIES THROUGHOUT THE WORLD
~

We urge all signatories to disseminate this information within their organizations and encourage them to support the recommendations described in the Statement of Concern.

GIVEN THE URGENCY OF THIS INITIATIVE, WE REQUEST THAT YOU PROVIDE YOUR ENDORSEMENT BY FEBRUARY 28, 2013.

On October 8, 2012, thirteen of world’s largest alcohol producers issued a set of commitments to reduce the harmful use of alcohol worldwide.  The commitments were issued in support of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Strategy to Reduce the Harmful Use of Alcohol.

As an independent coalition of public health professionals, health scientists and NGO representatives, we have written a public letter that is addressed to the WHO Director General in response to the recent initiatives of the global alcohol producers. Based on their lack of support for effective alcohol policies, their misinterpretation of the Global Strategy’s provisions, and their lobbying against effective public health measures, we believe that the alcohol industry’s inappropriate commitments must be met with a united response from global health community.

We are now asking qualified professionals throughout the world to review the Statement of Concern, (available here
http://www.globalgapa.org/) and indicate their endorsement by sending an email to the office of the Global Alcohol Policy Alliance (GAPA) at  gapa@ias.org.uk

Please give the following details:
  • Full name
  • Professional title
  • Institution affiliation
  • Country
In providing these details you will be agreeing to have your name listed (but not your email address) on both the public letter to WHO and the GAPA website that will post the letter.

Please note endorsement will be on an individual basis and will not imply endorsement by your organization. However, if you are a member of an organization that would be willing to formally endorse this Statement, please indicate this in your reply.

We urge all signatories to disseminate this information within their organizations and encourage them to support the recommendations described in the Statement of Concern.

GIVEN THE URGENCY OF THIS INITIATIVE, WE REQUEST THAT YOU PROVIDE YOUR ENDORSEMENT BY
FEBRUARY 28, 2013.

Thank you for your consideration.

STOP City-Sponsored Alcohol Ads
on Bus Shelters and other City-Owned Property!

After nearly two years of hard work by the Los Angeles Coalition to Ban Alcohol Ads on Public Property, the Los Angeles City Council Public Safety Committee is meeting this Friday May 24, 2013, to vote on Council Member Richard Alarcon's motion to ban alcohol ads on city owned and controlled property. If passed, this will benefit youth in Los Angeles and reduce alcohol related public safety expenses.

PLEASE HELP by telling Public Safety Commmittee members that you support them in looking-out for the well-being of L.A.'s young residents and families AND banning alcohol ads on public property will make a difference!

SEND Your Letter Today.
